What to Expect During Your HVAC Installation

A Done truck parked on the street with its doors open

New HVAC equipment is one of the most expensive investments many people will make for their home, and most homeowners will only go through the process once. To help you understand the process and set your mind at ease when selecting Done Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Electric, we have compiled a list of what to expect before, during, and after the HVAC installation process.

Before the HVAC Installation

Evaluation

Your Comfort Advisor will evaluate your home, including current equipment and duct systems, to present options for new equipment. With improvements in technology and efficiency over the last 15 – 20 years, matching the right air conditioner to what you have today may not be your best option, and may not even be available any more.

Options

Your Comfort Advisor will present your options, giving you pros and cons of different air conditioning equipment so you can make the best decision for you and your family.

Scheduling

Once your HVAC system is selected, your Comfort Advisor will work with you and our dispatch team to select an install date. Depending on the equipment selected and the complexity of the installation, it may take 1 – 3 days for completion (most installations are completed in 1 day).

Coordination

Your Comfort Advisor will complete an internal Installation Form that outlines the equipment to be installed, parts and tools needed, and additional instructions necessary for the installation team, detailing the proper installation of your new equipment. They will also discuss final payment arrangements once the installation is complete.

The Day of Installation

Setup and Arrival

Please ensure that there is a clear path through your home to the location of the installation. We will be using dollies to transport the old equipment out of your home and the new equipment in.

Your install team (a crew of two HVAC technicians) will arrive between 8am and 10am.

Unless other arrangements are made, they will load the equipment, parts, and tools required and arrive at your property fully ready for installation. You will receive a phone call from our dispatch team when they are en route to your home. In some instances the installation team may arrive without the equipment, and our office will arrange delivery once they are on-site.

Installation

Your install team will begin by removing any old equipment that is being replaced. During this removal, they will disconnect the equipment from duct work and any other parts of the system that will remain in place.

Your old equipment is removed from your property and recycled.

Your install team will install your new equipment, reconnecting to your duct system, and make any building code upgrades necessary to legally meet current code requirements (note: some codes, including electrical panel improvements, may incur additional cost). Once the equipment is fully installed, the install team will show you the equipment and help you understand its operation. This includes your new thermostat (if applicable).

After the HVAC is Installed

Final Payment

Arranged ahead of time, the installation team will capture final signatures and collect final payment (less any deposits).

Warranty

Rest easy knowing that your new equipment will continue providing you comfort. The manufacturer’s parts are covered by a 10 year parts warranty (we register
the equipment with Carrier so you don’t have to), the labor warranty will depend on the equipment you selected:

  • Comfort Series = 2 years
  • Performance Series = 5 years
  • Infinity Series = 10 years

Equipment inspection is legally required (by the jurisdiction your home is in)

This cannot be completed the same day of installation and must be scheduled at a later time. You will receive a letter by mail from Done about 7-15 days after the installation is completed. This letter will include the actual permit, as well as further instructions on scheduling the inspection. In some areas, more than one inspection may be necessary (example: mechanical vs electrical inspections). These can be scheduled at the same time as long as we are asked to do so.

HVAC installation inspections can only be scheduled Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm.

These hours are set by the jurisdiction, not by Done.

Did you know?

As of 1 January 2023, a new energy efficiency standard is in effect known as SEER2. HVAC systems manufactured after this date give a more reliable efficiency rating and the minimum standard has been raised. This change comes at a price. 2023 HVAC systems could be $2,000 or up to 20% more expensive. The good news is that we are able to continue selling 2022 inventory while stock lasts. Reach out today to grab a less expensive unit.
