Done’s electrical team installs a full range of commercial lighting for small businesses, office spaces, retail locations, and commercial properties throughout the Denver metro. This includes LED retrofits of existing fluorescent systems, new construction lighting rough-in and trim, parking lot and exterior security lighting, emergency and exit lighting, task lighting for workspaces, and lighting control systems. Every commercial installation is designed to meet IES illumination standards, local building code, and NEC requirements for commercial occupancies.
LED Retrofit and Upgrade Projects
The most common commercial lighting project Done handles is converting older fluorescent or HID (high-intensity discharge) lighting to LED. The business case is straightforward: LED fixtures consume 40–60% less energy than the fluorescent systems they replace, produce better light quality (higher CRI, less flicker), and last 3–5 times longer — dramatically reducing re-lamping labor. For Colorado businesses on Xcel Energy service, LED upgrades can also qualify for energy efficiency rebates that offset a portion of the project cost.
Retrofit options include direct lamp replacement (replacing T8 or T12 tubes with LED tubes in existing fixtures), ballast bypass conversions, and full fixture replacement where the existing housing is aging or damaged. Done’s electricians assess which approach makes the most sense for each space.
Office and Workspace Lighting
Office lighting has to balance adequate task illumination (IES recommends 30–50 footcandles at the work surface for general office work) with glare control for computer screens and a color temperature that supports alertness without eye strain. Modern office lighting typically uses troffer-style LED panels or suspended linear fixtures with an indirect/direct distribution — bouncing some light off the ceiling to reduce glare while directing task light downward. Dimming controls and daylight harvesting (automatically reducing artificial light when natural light is sufficient) improve both comfort and energy performance.
Retail and Display Lighting
Retail lighting needs to make products look their best while keeping energy costs in check. Track lighting and adjustable-aim fixtures let display zones be reconfigured as merchandise changes. High-CRI LED sources (CRI 90+) render fabric, food, jewelry, and paint colors accurately — critical when a customer’s purchase decision depends on how something looks in the store versus at home. Done works with retail clients on both the fixture specification and the control systems that allow different zones to be set independently.
Exterior, Parking, and Security Lighting
- Parking lot lighting: LED area lights on poles, designed for uniformity ratios that meet IES RP-20 recommendations for parking facilities
- Building exterior: Wall-pack fixtures at entries, loading docks, and building perimeters
- Canopy lighting: Recessed or surface-mounted fixtures under building overhangs and drive-through canopies
- Bollards and pathway lights: Pedestrian-scale lighting for walkways and landscape areas
Colorado’s high UV index accelerates degradation of outdoor fixture housings and lenses. Specifying fixtures rated for the UV exposure level appropriate for the Front Range ensures a longer service life and consistent appearance over time.
Emergency and Exit Lighting
Commercial buildings are required by code to have emergency lighting that maintains minimum illumination levels during a power failure, plus illuminated exit signs at all required egress paths. Done installs, tests, and maintains emergency lighting systems including self-contained battery-backup units and central inverter systems for larger facilities. Monthly and annual testing as required by NFPA 101 is something we can schedule as part of an ongoing service relationship.
